BP Solar vs. the Competition
If
you have been pricing out systems, you will probably
notice that the BP Solar/Home Depot program is not the
cheapest. However, you get what you pay for. Companies
that work on slim margins are typically out of
business once sales slow down. You are investing in a
long-term utility system, so you need to be backed by
a company who will also be around for the duration.
Imagine,
if you will, purchasing your system from "Joe
Solar", who has set up shop because of all the
federal and state rebates. Once the IRS eliminates the
30% tax refund and the state rebate programs end, do
you think that Joe Solar will still be around trying
to offer these systems at the full retail price? More
likely, Joe Solar will be setting up shop in the next
state that is offering incentives, or may be in a
different line of business.

Keep
in mind that since you are financing your system for
at least 15 years, and the IRS and your state
government are covering more than 50% of the total
cost, your net difference in your monthly payment
between the reliable BP Solar / Home Depot system and
that offered by Joe Solar may not be that much. In
fact, based on a 15 year 6% interest rate, for
every $1,000 difference in the upfront system price,
your monthly payment increases by only about $4,
after your IRS rebate and your state rebate. Is it not
worth paying a little bit more, knowing that the
company who manufactured your system and the one who
installed it will still be around to service it under
your warranty?
Like
other industries, the solar power industry has its
scammers. Click
here to read an article about a solar sales and
installation company that took deposits for solar
power systems but never delivered the systems. If the
link is no longer active, it is about a solar
contractor in the South Bay area of CA, where his
company took deposits but never installed the solar systems. At least 30 customers were victims.
The contractor went to jail.
You can
take your chances with any of the dozens of solar
power companies that are out there, or you can leave
your worries behind and contact an authorized BP
Solar / Home Depot solar consultant.
One
other important factor to keep in mind - our price
includes ALL permit costs and inspections. Many
other installers don't include this in their price.
